What does Quest® Data Connector for Oracle and Hadoop do?
Quest® Data Connector for Oracle and Hadoop is an optional plugin to Sqoop. It facilitates the movement of data between Oracle and Hadoop.
Quest® Data Transporter for Hive is distributed with Quest® Data Connector for Oracle and Hadoop. Quest® Data Transporter for Hive is a Java command-line utility that allows you to execute a Hive query and insert the results into an Oracle table.
Installation
Download
Quest® Data Connector for Oracle and Hadoop is supplied as a compressed tar archive. The archive contains archives for Quest® Data Connector for Oracle and Hadoop and Quest® Data Transporter for Hive.
Install Quest® Data Connector for Oracle and Hadoop
1. Login to the shell as a user who has permission to install files into the Sqoop installation directory.
2. Extract the Quest® Data Connector for Oracle and Hadoop archive with the command: (version is the numeric identifier of the Quest® Data Connector for Oracle and Hadoop release)
tar xzf oraoop-version.tgz
The archive files are extracted into a sub-directory called oraoop-version.
3. Ensure the SQOOP_HOME environment variable is set to the absolute path of the Sqoop installation directory.
4. If the Sqoop site configuration files are located somewhere other than SQOOP_HOME/conf, then set the environment variable SQOOP_CONF_DIR to the absolute path of the site configuration directory.
5. Install Quest® Data Connector for Oracle and Hadoop files into Sqoop directories:
a. Change directory to the sub-directory to which the Quest® Data Connector for Oracle and Hadoop files were extracted: oraoop-version
b. Execute the Quest® Data Connector for Oracle and Hadoop shell script file: (No arguments are necessary.)

Install Quest® Data Transporter for Hive
The Quest® Data Transporter for Hive archive is within the Quest® Data Connector for Oracle and Hadoop download. The Quest® Data Transporter for Hive archive file name is of the form orahive-version.tgz where version is the numeric identifier of the Quest® Data Transporter for Hive release.
1. Extract the Quest® Data Transporter for Hive archive with the command:
tar xzf orahive-version.tgz
Configure Quest® Data Transporter for Hive
1. Login to the shell as a user who has permission to install files.
2. Change directory to where the Quest® Data Transporter for Hive files are extracted:
orahive-version
3. Execute the shell script file:
configure.sh
Note: At the end of this process the following file is created: defaultOraHive.sh. To specify a different filename execute the shell script:
configure.sh -o filename.sh
4. You will be prompted for details which will be saved in the created configuration file (defaultOraHive.sh)
